An installation made of 3D printed ceramic bricks that brings together the past and future
On the occasion of Argillà 2024, architect and designer Virginia San Fratello presented the project ‘Future Archeologies 2049‘: an installation of more than one thousand ceramic 3D printed bricks made of local clay from Faenza.
The project, started in 2022, was completed thanks to the use of WASP 40100 LDM and Continuous Feeding System, which WASP provided to FACC – Faenza Art Ceramic Center to be used by the artists of their residency program.
The installation imagines a future where 3D printed architecture made of traditional materials such as local clay is not only something common, but also extremely beautiful.

The installation highlights both historical and contemporary 3D-printed architecture.
The 3D-printed bricks are arranged into walls and while they are new and cutting edge, they are also curiously at home here, in harmony with the existing architecture of the Palazzo, and its centuries-old architectural elements, but also strangely foreign with their new shape and texture.
