WASP Hub CAVA DE' TIRRENI

In the heart of the city of Cava de’ Tirreni, in a dynamic and modern space, the first Center for Digital Craftsmanship (CAD) in Italy was born. The CAD is an innovation center, a training and technological hub, designed to help the relaunch of craft activities through digital and new technologies. Here, 12 art and crafts workshops have the opportunity to live for a year a unique experience of updating and experimenting with new manufacturing technologies, and the new opportunities that digital offers to craftsmanship and manufacturing through the union of traditional knowledge with new technologies. In fact, Centro per l’Artigianato Digitale wants to be a concrete example of how tradition and innovation can not only coexist, but together represent the real key to the growth and relaunch of production activities. The Center for Digital Craftsmanship is a project wanted by the municipality of Cava De’ Tirreni and managed by Medaarch.

The CAD aims to become a point of reference for digital craftsmanship, for the relaunch of Made in Italy, establishing itself as a pole of excellence for training and consultancy on innovation issues linked to advanced manufacturing, the circular economy , to industry 4.0, to technological innovations, to the knowledge economy.

At the gates of the Amalfi Coast, in the splendid setting of the millenary city of Cava de’ Tirreni, the Center for Digital Craftsmanship takes place, thanks to a functional recovery project of the “former fish market” in Viale Crispi, now abandoned for years. The new structure which is located in the heart of the historic city center, a few steps from the Town Hall building, as well as enhancing a public space, wants to give a strong boost to local craftsmanship, a sector in which Cava de’ Tirreni has a great tradition; among all it is enough to remember the craftsmanship of ceramics and wrought iron.

Along the sides of the gallery there are the artisan shops in a porticoed space dedicated to them. Inside there are spaces used as a classroom, coworking and digital manufacturing laboratories. The latter are set up with numerical control machines, at the service of the craftsmen.
